The following fiction titles are published by Christian publishing houses such as Bethany House, Chariot Books, Crossway Books, William B. Eerdmans Publishing, Focus on the Family, Thomas Nelson Publishers, Tyndale, and Word Publishing. Most of these books are located in the Kids' Library’s paperback collection.

Jennifer’s Secret   by Judy Baer
In book three of the “Cedar River Daydreams” series, Lexi Leighton and her friends are excited about the beginning of a new school year - all but Jennifer, that is. Jennifer is so uptight she seems about to snap, and Lexi decides to investigate.  For grades 5 – 8.

The Dog Who Would Not Smile   by Stephen Bly
When his grandparents die, Nathan travels out west to rejoin his parents. But when he gets to Willow Creek, his parents aren’t there - and neither is anyone else! Leaving the deserted town, Nathan sets out to find his parents, aided only by a faithful dog and God. Book 1 in the “Nathan T. Riggins Western Adventure” series; for ages 9 - 14.

Mars Diaries series   by Sigmund Brouwer
Set in 2040, the Mars Diaries feature 14-year-old Tyce Sanders, the only child who has ever been born on Mars. He lives under a dome on the red planet with 200 scientists and tekkies, including his mother. Confined to a wheelchair, Tyce uses virtual reality and robotics to experience life beyond his physical boundaries. He also finds the mysteries of Mars lead him to a new relationship with God.  For ages 10-14.

Tell Me Everything   by Carolyn Coman
After her mother dies in a rescue mission on a snowy mountain, twelve-year-old Roz wonders if talking to God, and to the boy for whom her mother died, can help her understand what happened. For grades 6 and up.

Into the Flames   by Robert Elmer
Their work delivering newspapers for the Danish underground lands twins Peter and Elise in a Nazi prison where they experience firsthand the importance of faith. For ages 8 - 13. Other titles in “The Young Underground” series include Chasing the Wind and Far from the Storm.

Mattie’s Money Tree   by Don German
Always in need of money, Mattie and Scott decide to grow it on a grafted tree, but when they set out to spend their first crop they find themselves giving it away instead.  For grades 3 - 4.

Seventeen Wishes   by Robin Jones Gunn
Working as a camp counselor begins well for sixteen-year-old Christy – she meets a handsome counselor, takes long walks in the woods and splashes in a sun-toasted lake. But soon Christy is up to her ears with kids who won’t obey her, camp rules to remember and an embarrassing incident that makes her the camp joke.  Other titles in the “Christy Miller” series are: Sweet Dreams and A Promise is Forever.

Abandoned on the Wild Frontier   by Dave Jackson
His friendship with Peter Cartwright, a Methodist circuit-rider evangelist, enables thirteen-year-old Gil to pursue his dream of locating his mother who was kidnapped by the Sauk Indians during the war of 1812. “A Trailblazer Book,” one of several “thrilling adventure stories introducing young readers (ages 8 - 12) to Christian heroes of the past.” Other titles: Assassins in the Cathedral and Mask of the Wolf Boy, also by Dave Jackson.

The Vanishings   by Jerry B. Jenkins
This is the first volume in the series “Left Behind: The Kids,” a companion to the popular Left Behind series for adults. In the children’s version, four kids face Earth’s last days together.  For ages 10-14.

Trouble at Wild River   by Lois Walfrid Johnson
In 1907 Wisconsin, Kate and Anders discover a timber swindler while visiting their Indian friend Running Deer, and suspect that Uncle Ben, newly arrived from Sweden, may be involved. Book five in the “Adventures of the Northwoods,” for grades 4 - 6.

A Race Against Time   by William Kritlow
Kelly and her brother Tim accompany their uncle, an eccentric computer genius, on a dangerous mission using an advanced virtual reality chamber, where they must rely not only on logic, but on their Christian faith, to survive.  For ages 10 - 14.  Book one in the high-tech series “Virtual Reality.”

Mandie series   by Lois Gladys Leppard
In Mandie and the Cherokee Legend, Mandy is bewildered by the unhappy reaction of some of her Cherokee friends to her discovery of gold inside a cave, and her Christian values are tested by a troublesome Cherokee cousin. “A Mandie Book for girls 9 - 13.” Other titles in the series include Mandie and the Jumping Juniper, Mandie and the Foreign Spies and Mandie and the Secret Tunnel.

The Cul-De-Sac Kids series   by Beverly Lewis
In Frog Power, the inclusion of Jason’s frog Croaker in the Easter pet parade she is planning challenges Stacy’s fear of frogs. Other titles in the series include The Crazy Christmas Angel Mystery and No Grown-Ups Allowed!  For grades 2 – 3.

Whispers Down the Lane   by Beverly Lewis, Beverly
After being beaten by her father, Lissa, an eighth grade classmate, comes to Merry’s house in the middle of the night, and Merry asks God and the family of her Amish friend, Rachel, to help her protect Lissa.  First in the series “Summerhill Secrets.”  For grades 7 and up.

In Grandma’s Footsteps   by Paula Montgomery
Hazel Weston trains to be a nurse in a Portland hospital during the Depression. Hazel copes with unusual patients, clowning dormmates, even a mysterious prowler. But then Hazel’s whole world crumbles as her lifelong dream slips away, and she must go back to her home in the valley to discover the secret of true fulfillment. Part of “The Adventures of Hazel Weston” series.  For grades 5 and up.

The Three Cousins Detective Club series   by Elsbeth Campbell Murphy
In The Mystery of the Dolphin Detective, three ten-year-olds investigate a mystery at a dolphin study center. Other titles in the series are The Mystery of the Eagle Feather and The Mystery of the Hobo’s Message.  For ages 7 - 10.

Bloodhounds, Inc. series   by Bill Myers
Funny, hair-raising mysteries starring brother and sister, Sean and Misty. A fast-paced alternative to Goosebumps.  For ages 8 - 13.

My Life as Dinosaur Dental Floss   by Bill Myers
Bumbling but brilliant Wally McDoogle learns that honesty is the best policy after a practical joke snowballs into near disaster involving terrorists, tourists, television news and the President..  Other titles in “The Incredible Worlds of Wally McDoogle” series include: My Life As Crocodile Junk Food and My Life As a Smashed Burrito. For grades 4 - 7

Skate Expectations   by Bill Myers

Once Upon a Summer   by Janette Oke
Janette Oke’s Christian romances, including the “Love Comes Softly” series, are very popular with both adults and young adults. Once Upon a Summer is the first in Oke’s “Seasons of the Heart” series, about Josh Jones growing up on the farm, and the lives and loves of several members in his family. For grades 7 and up.

The Rescue   by Nancy Rue
Josiah and Hope, two young Puritans living in the Salem Village in 1689, befriend a Quaker woman and a Wampanoag Indian who are not accepted members of the community. Book 1 in the “Christian Heritage Series: the Salem Years.” Another adventure series by this author is “The Christian Heritage Series: The Chicago Years.” For ages 8 to 12.

Here’s Lily   by Nancy Rue
Sixth-grade Lily becomes obsessed with becoming a model, and is determined to win a model-search fashion show. Before long, though, Lily discovers the secret to real beauty. (Young Women of Faith series). For grades 5 and up.

Olympic Dreams   by Lauraine Snelling
Thirteen-year-old DJ wants nothing more than to compete as a show jumper in the Olympics. After years of training, only one thing stands in her way - she doesn’t have a horse! Other titles in the “High Hurdles” series: DJ’s Challenge and Setting the Pace. For ages 11 – 14.

Redheaded Orphan   by L. Travis
In 1864 when his family moves to Bellfield, Minnesota, where his father will be the town minister, twelve-year-old Ben misses his friend Zack, who is now a drummer in the Union Army. He finds a new friend in an orphan whose parents were killed during an Indian raid. The “Ben and Zack” series also inlcudes Captured by a Spy and Union Army Black.  For ages 8 - 13.

Abby and the South Seas Adventures series   by Pamela Walls
Thirteen-year-old Abby Kendall and her family set sail for Hawaii in the year 1847. Abby and her stowaway friend, Luke, find exciting adventures and discover that God is faithful to his promises. First in the series: Lost at Sea. For ages 8-12.

That Wild Berries Should Grow   by Gloria Whelen
Elsa dreads spending the summer at her grandparents’ house on Lake Huron, but once there she discovers the excitement of nature and the richness of friendship. For grades 4 and up.

The Secret of the Old Graveyard   by Susan Kimmel Wright
Thirteen-year-old Nellie is upset by her unconventional parents’ decision to go to Colombia to adopt a baby and by the mysterious goings-on in the cemetery near her rural Pennsylvania home. For grades 5 and up.
